21 Feb CivTechSA Out On the Town
The CivTechSA team had a busy day on Tuesday. We spoke to some wonderful educators from Fort Sam Houston ISD and took a trip to the El Tropicano Hotel in downtown San Antonio to share CivTechSA with the San Antonio public library staff at their annual Staff Transformation Day.
We started off the day at the City of San Antonio’s Office of Innovation, where Innovation Manager, Kate Mason, gave an overview of CivTechSA, it’s partnership with Geekdom and the entrepreneur community here in town, and our goals for students. The teachers finished up at Geekdom to take a tour and get an idea of the key role our startups play in solving civic challenges here in San Antonio and to also see the resources our co-working space provides.
CivTechSA is diligently exploring all avenues to work with a variety of districts and education levels, and we are greatly excited to see what possibilities exist for the City and our education communities. We hope to expand our reach over the next few years, enabling students to take an active role in improving our City through entrepreneurism and Tech.
In addition to sharing the CivTechSA vision with Fort Sam educators, Kate also made an appearance at the San Antonio Public Library’s Staff Transformation Day. This event is where library staff members gathered to learn from each other and experts across a wide variety of areas, including technology and Civic Tech. The CivTechSA Program is a part of the City of San Antonio’s Smart City initiatives and connects students and startups with the City in order to solve challenges and create civically-minded tech talent.
Meeting with educators and key staff members is a core part of the civic engagement necessary for all of us to improve our community, and CivTechSA loves to do it.
